M2 Justification

P4 Products and Production

 Radio Trailer:

I made this Radio trailer using Final Cut Pro. This software allowed me to intuitively layer audio tracks as I already understood it's functions. Also as this is primarily a video editing software it was very easy to add the ident over the top which I adapted to be 1920x1080 HD resolution to allow upload to YouTube as an MP4 file with 48khz 16 bit depth audio (European required for radio.) Firstly I started by recording both voice overs using the script I created which can be seen here as can consent forms. These voice over were recorded using voice memos on the iPhone as this allowed for sufficient audio quality which I could efficiently import into my Final Cut project. I added a voice booster effect and raised the volume of these voice overs in Final Cut to make them more audible when surrounded by all the other audio clips.
To make the trailer I started by importing the news reading voice over, under this voice over I added a typical news soundtrack to add suspense and support the urgency of the voice over. Once I was happy with the mix of each track I added the car engine sound effect (volume increased) which was closely followed by the soundtrack which I slightly reduced the volume of to fade in. Over this I layered the dialogue with voice boost applied, alongside some police chatter sound effects to build up the tension. Shortly after to try and create a soundscape I added a sound effect of tyres on dirt as well as some police sirens (lowered volume to allow them to build up later.) These sirens progressively got louder to aid a crescendo. This was closely followed by some running footsteps which led me into a separate and ambiguous monologue "you made me do this." As the song reached the peak of it's instrumental I placed a gunshot sound effect which I also had to increase the volume of. Directly after this gunshot I added an ear ringing sound effect which led into the ending voice over promoting the show. This voice over worked very well with the progression of the song as the breaks between voice and song interchanged to create suspense. After this I slowly faded out the audio of all tracks. Throughout the mix I had to very quickly fade in and out each sound clip to avoid clipping.
We couldn't find the proper audio recorder so instead I used an expensive Rode shotgun microphone into a camera. Once equalised within the camera to avoid peaking this allowed for good audio quality.
This trailer fit this script well and as planned.

Video Trailer:

Script and storyboard can be seen here
Initially in the script and storyboard I planned to have the opening shot with the voice over be a piece of footage I created where an actor is watching his phone. However, when it came to the production day my actor had COVID and so following the risk assesment I avoided filming the scene and instead used stock footage to overlay the voice over. This led to me using the stock footage of a radio and cigarette instead which I feel was still effective in adding context to the program. Additionally the duration of clips changed from the storyboard as when it came to editing the clips with the song it benefited the trailer to alter the clip duration to better fit the song and tell the story. For example, at the end when there are fast paced beats I cut the clips on beat much faster than planned as this helped emphasise the ending which remained true to script.

Print (A4 posters, Billboard):
I created all of the print media using the A4/A3 presets in Adobe photoshop. These images were high enough resolution to allow a poster to be made of any size because billboards don't need crazy increased resolution as they aren't seen close up. For this reason, creating the majority of posters with 300dpi in A4 allowed for the best versatility to import into social media, print etc. The landscape poster was created 600dpi A3 as this one would be printed largest. Additionally using a monochromatic colour scheme on the key graphical elements (logos) meant that I avoided colour distortion in print. The colour in the images would be distorted when printed, especially in the oranges, as the budget doesn't allow for multi-coat printing. This doesn't ruin the effect at all. I started creating these posters by scaling the base image to fit the frame centrally. After this I imported the ident and scaled/ arranged it in a way which worked well with the image whilst catching the viewers attention. I then rearranged the BBC3 logo and release date centrally as this added structure and looked professional. For two of the images I added a motion blur as planned which was created by duplicating the image and masking out the effect with a soft brush to place the main subject in focus. The BBC3 logo was left in colour for the one poster as it worked well with the colours of the image.

Visualisation diagrams can be seen here
As you can see in the poster varied from the initial visualisation diagram because I was unable to take the base image due to the model having COVID - therefore shooting was cancelled in line with he risk assessment. As I needed to create the posters on a strict deadline I turned to stock imagery. Firstly, to add consistency across the campaign I used a photographer whose videography I had used previously in the trailer. Many of his images fit very well with the brand image and also themes of the show. No colour alterations were made to these images because I was happy with the tonal qualities. In relation to the initial visualisation diagram I retained most of the key aspects such as the use of negative space, central composition and thirds placed graphics. Additionally the motion blur effect was used in a couple of the posters as planned. The same graphical elements (ident, release date and BBC3 logo) were used.

Social Media:
Video Trailer Adapted for Instagram:
To adapt the original audio/visual trailer for instagram I created a square project in Premiere Pro 1920px x 1920px and copied across the assets from the original project. Doing this allowed me to manipulate each layer in isolation. There wasn't much adaptation needed besides moving a few clips so that the key focal point was still clear. Additionally, the logos had to be scaled down to fit within the square crop. I then exported the video as an MP4 and posted it directly from desktop to avoid email compression.

Radio Trailer Adapted for Instagram:
To adapt the radio trailer I followed an even simpler process than the audio/visual trailer. No asset rescaling was required I just created a 1920px x 1920px square MP4 project and copied the original trailer.

Ident adapted for Instagram profile picture:
To create the social media profile picture I just took the show ident as a PNG file and imported it into a 1080px x 1080p square document with a black background. I then resized and centralised the ident so that it would fit in a circular instagram crop.

Posters adapted for Instagram posts:
To adapt the posters for instagram posts I decided that the portrait aesthetic is more modern than square image posts. This meant creating a 4x5 document in photoshop where I copied the assets from the original posters. I cropped the images so that the key subject was still clear, this is when choosing images with lots of negative space came in handy. I slightly re arranged the graphics to fit within this new crop and then exported these as high quality JPGs.

I used the bio to establish the hashtag and the key information about the show whilst also linking the website. Additionally I would link the account to Facebook to allow for business analysis tools and paid ads. Visualisation can be seen here
The A4 posters fit perfectly as story posts which allowed the content to be spread across all parts of Instagram. Additionally I used question boxes and polls to encourage engagement, these story posts would be frequent every day to fill space in where feed posts aren't used.

As mentioned earlier I repurposed the original audio/visual trailer into a square format so that it worked well on instagram. Above you can see the thumbnail and caption I chose.

P1 Memorable adverts

Memorable advert

This is a Pepsi advert from December 2001 directed by Patrick Sherman in which a kid uses two cans of Coke so that he can reach the Pepsi button to buy a Pepsi, leaving without the two cans of coke.

This was banned because it was too blatantly stating an advantage over direct competition without backing it up, I'm also not sure how they got away with copyright issues. This ad is memorable because it's a brave statement by Pepsi, not pulling any punches. It lulls you into thinking it's a Coke commercial at first which I think makes it more memorable as a Pepsi ad.

Making a product appeal more to young audiences

A service that is typically advertised through very dull and matter of fact advertising to older generations is life assurance. It typically features a person presenting facts or guilt tripping the adult into getting life assurance so their family can afford a funeral. To make life assurance appeal to a younger target audience maybe around 20 yrs old I would instead make the advert very action packed, with people doing lots of extreme sports such as skydiving, surfing, motocross etc without even mentioning any facts or guilt tripping - just a logo at the end. I think this would engage the young target audience a lot more and make them see this service as a less 'grown up' and boring thing to have, allowing them to have more fun conscious free. This would also offer the opportunity to have action sport celebrity endorsement to make the product seem more youthful and desirable. Obviously this would never happen because this is one of the most heavily regulated industries in terms of advertising and marketing, but if it were allowed that could be effective.

Celebrity Endorsement

Ed Sheeran (Celebrity) Heinz endorsement

Sheeran was chosen to be in this advert because of his renowned and vocal love for tomato ketchup - because he apparently messaged Heinz with the ad idea. He is on of the largest UK celebrities and is very popular among the older TA who are most likely to be purchasing condiments. The aim of this advert was clearly to promote Heinz ketchup and get the consumer to purchase it next time they're choosing between ketchups, because the product has been reinforced into their decision.  I think that this advert was very useful in it's use of the celebrity because it appeals to the working class audience by making it relatable through Ed. His storyline is funny for middle class people which gets them engaged, whilst also being appealing for the working class as it shows an anti-wealth standpoint.

Mr Beast (youtuber/influencer) honey endorsement

In this advert which was featured as a little 53 second extract in one of the youtuber's videos, he installs Honey (a browser extension) onto his Mum's computer to show the ease of use. Mr Beast was chosen as he is one of the largest and most relevant channels on YouTube with a very consistent and young viewership. His videos typically have high engagement due to the large ideas which means that many people will watch through the ad. In addition, his followers are typically quite young and easily impressionable, often buying whatever he says. The aim of this advert was to increase awareness for Honey and increase their downloads, which it did successfully. I think the advert was successful in its use of the celebrity but only because he has a very large following so they are guaranteed increased sales, there is no correlation between Mr Beast's brand and Honey like with Ed and Heinz. Although much like Ed with Heinz, Mr Beast has now endorsed Honey multiple times.

Shock advertising or 'shockvertising'
Shock advertising is a from of advertising that "deliberately, rather than inadvertently, startles and offends its audience. This is done by violating norms for social values and personal ideas. This is done by using taboo subjects, this generates a more memorable brand/ cause awareness. It can be wildly successful or backfire terribly.
The first advertisement in this compilation is an example of shockvertising used to raise awareness for house fires killing children, called "On your child's life". It features a young boy directly addressing parents to swear on their Childs life that they will test their smoke alarms to give their family a better chance of surviving a house fire. The direct address in this advert is part of the shock factor involved as well as the boy fading away at the end to infer his death to add to the already intense sense of guilt this advert effectively creates. "You did promise didn't you?"

P2 Evaluate the brief

 The brief

1. The brief states that we are to create a cross media advertising campaign for a TV drama which involves at least three different advert products across mediums as well as producing a brand ident and a concept for an interactive app (with an avatar and quiz feature.) These products must be ready to be published 2 weeks before the TV drama's release at the latest. Friday 8th April 2022.

2. The aims and objectives for this brief are to generate interest in the programme before and during its release with a solid, relevant and low budget (£15000) advertising campaign. This means market research into how we can best interest the 15-21 year old target audience - looking at conventions etc. We aim to produce at least 3 different cross media products alongside the concepts for an interactive app.

3. I will be advertising 'The Perfect Drug' a TV drama concept I created in units 21 and 22. This is an action packed teen crime drama with lots of conflict and relatability to appeal to the young and 'less patient' target audience. It covers issues such as corruption, drug abuse and racism - issues very relevant in the minds of the target audience and issues which have proved to gain their interest in other programmes like Breaking Bad and Killing Eve. The drama follows young adults along a morally distorted journey, tracking their journey from heroes to criminals. I think in terms of advertising, short social media adverts and graphics are likely to be most effective in gaining the TA's interest however I do think that a cross media campaign will be very effective because often people are desensitized to social media ads because it's all we see - so something different would capture their attention and outline the different nature of the drama. In terms of visual aspects that appeal to the audience besides characteristics such as 'action packed', I think that vintage creative design which covers clothing, set design and some music would be great in adding a nostalgic and warm feel to the adverts similar to that of 'Sex Education'.

4. I revisited my Unit 21 P2 Proposal to remind myself about the demographics and psychographics of the 'The Perfect Drug' TA so that I can get a better understanding in my proposal of how to advertise to this specific target audienceThe programme will be targeted at UK viewers primarily in the North as it will mainly be shot in Yorkshire but feature some scenes in London and around the UK. To emphasise this UK target audience the characters will be British and possible British traditions will be outlined. These characters will be very diverse in ethnicity as this will better represent the UK’s multiculturalism and broaden the audience. The programme would also highlight issues regarding racism in the North which should raise awareness/understanding. In terms of class this programme would be aimed at middle class/ (B,C1,C2) as it aims to challenge the class divide and also the misconceptions about drug use. This class is also typically the most ‘compliant’ or endorsing of the government so the programme would address this. Education level and income level aren’t too crucial to the target audience for this programme. When thinking about psychographics it
would best appeal to reformers, people seeking social awareness and independent judgement. However, more importantly the psychographics which I would most like this programme to reach would be mainstreamers and resigned, those with more linear and rigid views about class, race, gender, sexuality and government. The themes would address and contrast these rigid views. 15-21 year olds as outlined by the brief and BBC3s intention to acquire younger viewers.

5. The target audience demographics and psychographics will greatly affect the mediums used to promote the drama because not only does a person's age typify how they engage with different adverts but also their class, income, education etc. This would mean deep research would need to be done into how my 15-21 year old TA best respond to different types of adverts because I am aware that only 33% of this group watch cable TV and therefore for example a TV advert would be ineffective in comparison to maybe a social media snippet. I will also need to look into how the B,C1 and C2 classes respond to advertisement in terms of which forms they consume most and which forms they engage with most as well as how to best appeal to them in my campaign. Furthermore, it would be useful to look into how to best appeal to the mainstreamer and reformer psychographics through advertising as especially for mainstreamers I want to get them watching the programme even though it may challenge their taste. The younger target audience would mean a different scheduling strategy in comparison to an older one because the younger target audience frequently uses social media and therefore a more long-term drip feeding campaign could be more effective than infrequent and large TV ads.

6. To work out exactly who my target audience is and also how to best advertise to them/utilise the budget, I will need to undertake lots of research. This research will have to span across primary and secondary so that I have a wide and well informed pool of information. As lots of data regarding media consumption can be easily quantified over the years there is an abundance of quantitative data from reliable sources such as BBFC which would tell me exactly what type of media/adverts my TA consumes most. Thanks to social media and data profiling :( we are also able to directly see the direct engagement of advertisements on the social media user. I may also do secondary research besides internet data reports and articles, possibly reading books or academic essays discussing the advertising psychology of my TA. This will help me to better understand the mindset of the consumer and allow for me to create a more effective campaign. I will also undertake primary research such as surveys, interviews or focus groups because although it is time consuming, it provides reliable, specific and qualitative data which will be extremely useful in creating the campaign. I would conduct a survey by designing it using a digital software and then emailing it out to hundreds of students at may school who fit the TA, this allows for me to save time by not having to print or directly ask hundreds of people for responses.

P4 Writing the script (all drafts)

First Draft
This is the first draft of my shooting script for a 15 minute extract of "The Perfect Drug". This uses the Warner brother script formatting template which helps to ensure everything is formatted correctly and 1 minute equates to around a page. I want this extract to be very experimental and disorientating to the viewer, showing a plethora of possible outcomes or plot lines in the show to build interest whilst still confusing the viewer (no spoilers.) First draft is 8 pages long.

Second Draft
After receiving feedback on my first draft I started by fixing a few presentation issues such as the brackets on the title page and the capitalisation of names in character blocks when we first meet them. The main things I altered and had to improve on were the scene descriptions and intercutting sequence. I moved from using bracketed numbers  in the intercutting sequence to copying the scene heading every-time. The main thing I had to improve from the first draft was adding descriptions at the start of any new scene as well as describing new characters more deeply.

Third and final draft
From the second draft the only feedback I was given were to improve on little details predominantly regarding punctuation. This meant adding question marks, exclamation marks where needed as well as adding full stops at the end of some action blocks.

P3 Plan for script - gantt chart chart

Screenplay plan from "The Perfect Drug" 15 page hybrid extract using Ep1 00:00-15:00 as base.
This series is an experimental crime drama aimed at 18-21 year old British viewers on BBC3 when it relaunches onto television.
I will be writing a shooting script as we have already been theoretically been given the budget to make the product as we have already pitched so don't need a spec script. This means editing and shooting instructions and language will be used.
I will be writing a script for a promotional extract for the series in order to build interest for the series preempting its release. This script is written from a third person perspective following Jake as well as showing his POV briefly a few times.
In this script the base scene will show Jake walking around their apartment and interacting/ viewing his friends however there will be flash backs and flash forwards to different scenes many times.
I will be using the present tense in my action blocks and my dialogue will be written exactly how the character says it, using their slang and dialect as well as possibly speaking in different languages. Accents include: Leeds, Jamaican, London, Central asian/British. With modern British slang and local dialects used. No voice over will be seen in this script however there may be OS as many scenes will be overplayed in an audible overload psychedelic manner.
To fit the format of a screenplay I will be using 12pt courier (minute per page) as well as aligning dialogue and action in the ways we are supposed to which I outlined in my script analysis e.g dialogue central.
In this extract we meet all of the key characters seen throughout the season.

P2 Developed Ideas

In this section of P2 I chose two extract ideas from the previous section and looked at them in more detail, developing the ideas whilst looking at how I could present my idea, the characters involved etc.

Idea 1

This idea is a raw 15 minute extract from the middle of episode 5, packed with action and scenes but possibly not enough background info or character development.

Idea 2

This idea uses the first 15 minutes of Ep1 as a base however there are flash forwards and alternate endings shown throughout as its's very psychedelic and a bit scary to show the side-effects of usual drugs right off the bat. Packing it with action and still showing enough info but not giving too much away because we give alternate possibilities.

Summary/Choice

I have chosen Idea 2 as the extract which I would like to create a script for because I think it is a much more effective idea in building interest for the program and would definitely better represent the characters and the experimental nature of the program.

In relation to the brief I feel that this extract style will most appeal to a young audience due to the higher amounts of action but also because of the availability to involve emotive and relatable content. I'm also confident that this script will be more enjoyable to write and watch for 15 pages as it introduces the experimental aspect of this season.

It will peak the interest of the audience by showing different possible endings for each character, all ending on cliffhangers to grip the audience as well as confuse them a bit so they want to watch in order to figure it out.

It exhibits all the strongest parts of the plot alongside parts that aren't even in the plot, like dreams or possibilities. I believe this is fairly experimental and relates well to the nature of the program.

P2 Initial Ideas

The Brief    (scroll down for initial ideas)

Immediate response

This is our brief for UNIT 22 which asks us to create a script based on our UNIT 21 TV drama idea. We have been asked to script 10-15 minutes of the script, which if formatted correctly should equate to 10-15 A4 pages (1 min per page) including probably around 4 scenes - unless I decide to take a different approach. This means I will be looking at my episode breakdown which I created from my drama in order to find an episode I find most interesting where I could create a captivating 15 min extract.

 Target audience

To fit BBC3’s brief, this programme will be aimed a 16-21 year olds because the BBC would like to encourage a younger audience’s interest in the channel when it is released back on TV in 2022. The target audience will be unisex and the program will feature problems and characters relevant to both genders and although sexuality is not a key theme it will be outlined briefly through character relationships. The programme will be targeted at UK viewers primarily in the North as it will mainly be shot in Yorkshire but feature some scenes in London and around the UK. To emphasise this UK target audience the characters will be British and possible British traditions will be outlined. These characters will be very diverse in ethnicity as this will better represent the UK’s multiculturalism and broaden the audience.

Purpose of product

This project would satisfy two of Bulmer and Katz’s reasons that people consume media. The first being escapism/diversion – audiences seeking pure entertainment and thrill. This is a key purpose of TV dramas typically and my programme would satisfy this by having fast paced action scenes, engaging character arcs (to slightly satisfy the identification purpose,) interesting mis–en–scene and soundtrack. The other main purpose of this programme would be surveillance – it would serve to educate viewers about racial conflict, sexism, manipulation and climate change. It would also educate the viewer about the pros and cons of drug use as well as highlighting the conflict between young and old regarding drug use and race. Similar to extremely successful tv dramas in recent years such as Killing Eve and Line of Duty, this programme would also approach the topics of police and government corruption in order to build public understanding and encourage further thinking from the older generations about these organisations – possibly reflecting on the major protests in the past couple years.

Script type

This script will be a shooting script as opposed to a spec script because we have already been given the green light to create this drama. This means including shot types, SFX, everything.

What is most important? / set -up or cliffhanger?

This small extract would be intended to get further backing for the programme meaning it has to captivate the viewer and build interest which means choosing an episode or part of the episode packed with action and relatability. This might mean avoiding slow paced set up episodes however they do feature important plot lines.

Extract ideas

In this mind-map and following table I briefly look at 6 different ideas for 15 minute extracts of my TV drama which I could write a script for.

Extract 1-  Ep1, 00:00-15:00. This is the very first extract of the entire show and is very slow paced whilst introducing each of the characters and their relationships to each other. It is set in an apartment in Leeds featuring all of the student characters.

Extract 2- Ep2, 45:00-60:00. This is the end 15 minutes of the first episodes and gives us more insight into the drug that Ini is creating and ends with him successfully creating and testing it as they all celebrate.

Extract 3- Ep3, 25:00-40:00. At this point in the plot the distribution and popularity of the drug is increasing which means that there is lots more action. In addition, this is when the narrative splits and we see the police perspective.

Extract 4- Ep4, 45:00-60:00. At this point in the plot the drug is gaining international attention and this is when the main characters goes into hiding in the countryside whilst the police are building more evidence and catching more people.

Extract 5- Ep5, 20:00-35:00. In this extract the main character is really deteriorating mentally whilst still in hiding as one of his former closest friends is caught and the police move closer to catching him.

Extract 6- Ep6, 45:00-60:00. This is the very last 15 minutes of the season and ends with the main character being arrested by the police in an airport returning from a trip to Spain to talk with suppliers. Ends on that as a cliffhanger.

M2 Potential client questions and proposal amendments (from P3 practice pitch)

In this post I will be transcribing questions that I received during my P3 Practice pitch along with my answers. These will imitate what a potential client could ask.

Question: "Do you believe there is opportunity for further seasons of this concept?"

Answer: Yes I believe that there is the potential for future seasons because the program finishes on a sort of cliff hangar with the main protagonist being imprisoned thus creating the opportunity for season two to take a prison break approach. In addition the characters and ideas in this program would be very relatable and aim to hook the audience on a euphoric/entertained feeling. All the best programmes you are left quite down when they finish.

Question: "How would you distribute and promote this TV drama?"

Answer: This TV drama would be primarily distributed through below the line mediums through social media as this is proved to be most effective to the younger target audience that this program is aimed at. In addition the effectiveness of this method alongside the cheaper price best fits into the lower budget. Some above the line routes would be taken such as TV/iplayer promotion after related programmes. This would be useful as I could use the BBC's cross platform synergy and direct a much wider audience. It would be promoted using rave era branding and with a more vintage ident despite the younger audience and 2020 setting. I believe this would be effective because many Gen Z people seek to educate themselves on and consume 'retro' products and it's very much in trend.

Question: "How are you going to present drugs in your drama in a way that won't disturb viewers"

Answer: I think that the presentation of drugs will disturb some more narrow minded viewers as it takes a very objective approach; the drug isn't negative and therefore it would not be portrayed negatively. This is purposeful as it means the program acts as a microcosm, reflecting the conflict in views that different generations have about drug use and it would attempt to tackle the closed views of older generations as well as educating younger viewers to the downsides. Other (non fictional) drugs would be portrayed negatively so the fictional 'Perfect drug' would serve to contrast them and show how bad those real drugs can be.

Question: "Have you considered a title, I suggest 'The perfect drug'?"

Answer: Originally I thought of naming the programme after the chemical symbols of a drug companies are making without side effects however when I researched into this I found out that the names and chemical names of these drugs aren't at all catchy and don't really fit well with a TV drama. I do like the name 'The Perfect Drug' as it has a sense of power to it so I may use this if I don't come up with another.

Question: "You should reduce the content on your presentation to make it more digestible as well as branding it to fit the idea"

Answer: I will make this amendment in time with my final pitch, using retro rave era branding through printing on ecstasy tablets etc. With fitting fonts, colours, images etc.

Question: "Would it make more sense for the students in this program to be chemical/pharmacology students as opposed to medical students?"

Answer: Yes it would, this is an amendment I'll make.

Question: "Is this drug addictive?"

Answer: No this drug is not addictive at its pure form and the whole purpose of the first episodes is to develop a beneficial drug without any side effects; a concept pharmaceutical companies have been working on. As the program progresses and the drug becomes wider spread and mass produced we see it become more addictive and consequential because speed is prioritised over quality and the group become more involved in 'street life'. Reflecting what has happened in history with drugs like marijuana. Addiction is covered by this program and is one of the motivational factors of the group to produce this helpful drug however as the creator becomes more powerful he gets addicted to this power, leading to this downfall. Allowing for the idea of greed to be covered and showing that it could be our fatal flaw.

Question: "Is there an internal conflict in this group?"

Answer: Yes there is an internal conflict within the friend group who initially work on developing and testing the drug. Some of them think it's a good idea to sell and distribute the drug and are very pushy to do so whilst others have the opposite view which leads to some betrayals and arguments within the group and as the group deteriorates so does the sanity and operation of the protagonist. It would outline the fragility that greed and money can bring to a friendship/relationship. There is also an internal conflict within the governmental group to show that greed and power affects all types of people and their relationships.

Question: "Are you worried that this concept has been made already?"

Answer: I'm aware that films and programmes with similar ideas do exist such as 'Limitless' or 'Lucy' however I believe that there are many factors which set my drama apart from these concepts. For example the younger and diverse cast along with the many UK locations not often represented would attract a completely different TA. The split narrative and crime/corruption aspect to this program has also not been done before with similar concepts and they often don't approach current societal/systemic issues.

Question: "Do you think that the positive portrayal of drugs will fit with BBC3's ethos?"

Answer: As mentioned earlier drugs on the whole would not be endorsed, only the fictional one so I do believe it is acceptable for BBC3's younger TA brief. In addition, I don't believe that the concepts or imagery will stray from their ethos as they often cover experimental/controversial ideas especially focussing on younger people in the UK (as my drama does.)

Question: "Do you think that the BBC would invest in this as it could portray the government negatively?"

Answer: I acknowledge that the BBC is funded by the government through tax payer money however I'm confident they will invest because this programme covers many other pressing issues and educates the viewer on them. Something the government would be neglecting if they refused funding, and they do have the obligation to fund good entertainment. So even if the government was partially portrayed negatively it wouldn't be too much of a problem because the advantages of government would also be shown along with many other important ideas and controversies.
